We will use the What Is A Friend handout, and now that we are learning to gather more information and make less assumptions,we will talk about whether their perceptions of Acquaintances, Friends, and Best Friends have changed. We talk about how perceptions of the Acquaintance, Friend, and Best Friend were written back then and give them a new set of the Friend handout, and ask them to fill it out again.
Next we have a discussion of what they think, and if anything has changed. We ask them to write a sentence on how they would choose an acquaintance, friend, and best friend. They name one person for each category and describe how each person they chose fits into that category. We encourage clients to share their thoughts and to compare and evaluate their answers that are different than the first time they wrote them.
Finally, we ask them to reflect on ways they could move a person from one box to another, both intentionally and accidentally.
