Another one of our kids couldn't make the simplest decision. At McDonald's he always ordered a "Happy Meal", and as he grew he changed it to the larger kids meal. As he continued to grow he ordered 2, 3, or even 4 kids meals. When we asked about his choice, he just said, "I can't make up my mind and I get all frustrated so I always order what I know. When he went on his first formal date he was worried what to order at dinner. I thought I was so helpful and dropped them off at the Chinese Buffet. When he got home we asked about dinner, and he said, "She couldn't make a choice either, so we just ate chow mein."
I was the blessed one because my parents taught me how to make decisions, and then trusted me with my choice. While it will be more difficult to teach these things in the group home of today, we have included this subject in our curriculum and will do our best to teach and help children in our program learn how to make and have confidence in their decisions.
