Sometimes in spite of nights awake, praying, trying to think of a way to fix things, the relationship is still in jeopardy.
We are available for our foster parents to help in any way we can. Sometimes more training is needed, sometimes family meetings are helpful; whatever is needed we try to find a way.
In spite of all we know and all we do, some children just aren't workable.
It always hurts and dismays us when a child runs away, leaves on bad terms, or leaves to a life we are pretty sure will not work out well.
The good news is, everything you planted will stay until it is needed, or until the child becomes aware of the truth. We have 50 years of experience with this difficult part of foster care. Young adults come back, sometimes with their children, sometimes with spouses, partners or friends. We are always happy to see them.
We were blessed with no desire to get even or hold a grudge. It is a very good way to parent because you are always open to fixing the problem, no matter how long it takes.
