| I was reminded this week how important the life of a teenager is to children younger than the teen. I have a teenage granddaughter who is very creative. She makes everything from Disney costumes to clothes made out of duct tape. I was talking to one of the younger granddaughters and she was asking for things like beads, tape, thread, fabric, etc. I asked her, "What do you want all this for?" Well", she said, "I want to grow up to be just like (my older granddaughter), and I heard she got started practicing when she was my age so I thought I better get started." That teenager was shocked when I told her about the younger one. She couldn't believe anyone was observing her behavior, nor that anyone thought she was so special. It was really encouraging to her to hear that someone actually wanted to be like her. It would be great if every teen had someone who looked up to them, who appreciated the things they do and even more, if every teen knew that their good behavior was encouraging someone else. It really is true - you never know how important what you do is. |
